Jonathan Akene – Bachelor of Fine Arts in Transmedia
For me, one of the most rewarding aspects of teaching is witnessing the moment a student grasps a new concept and successfully applies it to their work. I believe art is not just a form of expression; it’s also a unique language that connects us deeply with the world, both internally and outwardly. My journey began with a childhood fascination with drawing, and through years of guidance, hard work, and a commitment to learning, that fascination culminated in earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Transmedia with a focus on design and animation from Texas Tech University’s School of Art and Honors College. While at Texas Tech, I had the opportunity to work as a Character Design artist for the Honors College and teach Digital Painting at the School of Art’s Summer Immersion Bootcamp. These experiences solidified my love for teaching and my dedication to helping others develop their artistic skills.
At the core of my teaching philosophy is a genuine passion for the craft and a commitment to nurturing creativity through foundational learning. I focus on guiding students through the fundamentals of design, techniques, and understanding the “why” behind their work, helping them build the confidence and skills needed to express themselves fully.
