Andrea Thompson – B.A. in Art Education
I’m an artist and educator with a B.A. in Art Education and a background as a portrait artist working in oil, acrylic, and watercolor. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, I started my career as a full-time artist, teaching and creating commissioned portraits. Over time, I stepped into the corporate world but eventually found my way back to my first love: art.
I believe art is for everyone—any age, any experience level. To me, creating isn’t just about finishing a piece; it’s about slowing down, observing the world, and exploring with curiosity. My goal is to help students find their own style and voice, free from comparison or fear. I love creating a space where people feel encouraged to take risks and enjoy the process of making something uniquely theirs.
I’ve taught painting classes for both kids and adults, blending technical skills with a laid-back and supportive approach. My experience as a commissioned portrait artist has also shaped my teaching, giving me real-world insights that I bring into the classroom.
Now based in Austin, Texas, I’m thrilled to reconnect with the creative community and dedicate myself to art full-time. Whether I’m teaching or painting, I’m passionate about helping others discover how transformative and rewarding art can be.
