ART classes children 9 to 12 yrs old
Drawing and painting classes for children.
Learning how to draw is a great asset for children of this age. Drawing allows them a way to express themselves, a tool to use when they are bored, a way to express their ideas to others and a source of joy, confidence and self-esteem. However, around 10 years old children become very critical of their art work. This is the age when most people stop drawing because they are convinced they can not do it.
In this class we teach children:
- Three-dimensional drawing: Through the review of 12 concepts, the children learn: foreshortening, contour lines, basic perspective, size and other concepts that help make their drawings look 3D. We teach children this by fostering their imagination to create something they do not physically see.
- Realistic drawing: Using the proven methods of Dr. Betty Edwards, “How to Draw with the Right Side of the Brain,” we teach children “how to see” so they can do a realistic drawing. This part of the class is introduced in intervals along with the 3D drawings.
- Exploring media types: As the children learn basic drawing and they progress, we introduce: charcoal, soft and oil pastels, watercolors, tempera and acrylic paints.
During the school year: Our weekly classes for children run from September to May. You can enroll any time if we have space in the class. You do not need to wait for the beginning of the month to enroll (we will pro-rate tuition if that is the case).
The students will take advantage of our small teacher/ratio having a quality instruction while developing a love for art. If you do not find space in the class you want, please register in the waiting list, and we will contact you with some options.
The tuition covers FOUR consecutive art classes which meet once a week. There is a $35 admin fee every quarter (due in September, December and March) except over the summer. We provide all the materials for the art classes and host one student art exhibit show (“Gallery Day”) per year.
During Summers: Our schedule changes to open space for half-day Summer Camps in the mornings and afternoons as well as a reduced number of weekly classes.
Kids Ages 9-12 Art School, Art Classes: Drawing and Painting classes online and in person classes. Schedule in mornings, afternoons or evenings with small groups ensuring the quality of the instruction at Art Plus Academy in Austin, Lakeway, and Cedar Park.
