What you could learn from our Drawing & Painting Classes
Did you know that most of us stop drawing around the age of 10?
Learn essential drawing & painting techniques in our professional art lessons.
Think about it. At some point, despite the encouraging “What a beautiful drawing!” from our parents, we realized that our drawing of a dog looked more like a horse. Then, we saw a classmate or family member who could draw better, and just like that, we declared, “I can’t draw.” Sound familiar?
From that moment on, many of us go through life claiming we can only manage stick figures. But what if I told you drawing is a skill, just like reading? When you start learning how to draw, it’s like learning to read—first, you build a foundation with basic skills. Over time, you gain the ability to “read” complex visual ideas and maybe even “write” your own masterpiece.
So, what happens when you start this creative journey? Before I dive in, let me say this: The earlier you start, the better—but the most important thing is to just start. Is 4 years old too early? Nope. Is 70 too late? Absolutely not!
Art is more than just creating pretty pictures—it’s a holistic way to develop essential life skills.
And art provides some incredible benefits needed for a 21st Century education:
- Creative Thinking
- Problem-Solving
- Attention to Detail
- Patience (a superpower in today’s fast-paced world)
- Discipline
- Giving and Accepting Feedback
- Taking Risks
Let’s use an example: imagine today’s project is to create a dragon.
- Creative Thinking: What kind of dragon will it be? Flying, curled under a mountain, or maybe lighting a candle with its fiery breath?
- Problem-Solving: Where will you place the dragon? How big should it be to fit alongside a volcano or even more dragons?
- Attention to Detail: Studying references to get the dragon’s size, shape, and texture just right. How will the scales curve? How does light hit the wings?
- Patience: Quality art takes time. Do you want to draw hundreds of scales? Add a sunset in the background? It’s all about the details!
- Taking Risks: Some students hesitate to add color, afraid it might ruin their drawing. But that’s part of the journey—experimenting, learning, and discovering. You might love the results, or you’ll learn what to do differently next time.
Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can tackle advanced skills like drawing from memory, working with different mediums, experimenting with unique styles, or creating original art.
