STEPS & RESULTS
Melissa joined ART+Academy with a clear goal: she wanted to learn how to draw. Her early work, including a self-portrait, showed a basic level of skill—simple lines and proportions that needed development. But Melissa was motivated, and through our beginner drawing classes, she quickly began to understand structure, proportions, and shading.
After just a few weeks, she redrew her self-portrait—and this time, the likeness was much improved. It was a clear sign of how much she had learned and how far she had come.
Eager to explore more, Melissa turned her attention to color and chose soft pastels as her next medium. That’s when her eye for detail really blossomed. She learned to slow down and truly see—capturing not just shapes, but subtle textures, light, and emotion.
Her pastel drawing of a cat is a perfect example of her progress. She didn’t just draw the cat accurately—she brought it to life. The attitude of the animal comes through in its expression and posture, and the texture of the fur is beautifully rendered with soft, layered strokes.
Melissa’s journey is a great reminder that with dedication, guidance, and curiosity, real artistic transformation is possible. We’re so proud of how far she’s come and excited to see where her creativity leads next.
