STEPS & RESULTS
Anna Lise joined ART+Academy as a beginner, curious to learn how to draw but unsure of where to start. Like many new students, her first self-portrait was a brave effort—it showed determination but also common beginner mistakes, such as placing the eyes too high on the head and having loose proportions overall.
After completing our drawing classes for beginners, Anna Lise quickly began to understand facial proportions and shading techniques. Her second self-portrait shows this clearly: a more accurate structure, smoother transitions in values, and more confidence in her mark-making.
Feeling inspired by her progress, she decided to keep going—and her goal was to draw portraits in color. Her teacher suggested pastel pencils as the next step. Anna Lise embraced the challenge, and the result is incredible. The portrait of her daughter not only captures a strong likeness but also shows emotional expression and control of the medium. Her journey is proof that progress comes with practice, encouragement, and a desire to grow. Watching her develop as an artist has been a joy.
